The big App for the small festival

Today we resleased a new App - nothing new there you say, sure isn't that what ye do....but this time there's one small difference. Most Apps MobaNode builds are bespoke custom work and thus take a good bit of time, energy, resources and therefore costs. However, not all our clients have the budgets to build bespoke Apps, so at MobaNode we're developing a system/platform/framework/thingy (can't decide what to call it!) to provide the same high quality apps, at a fraction of the time and cost. The first App out the gate using this "thingy" is our App for the Helium Festival 2011. A small festival in Ballymahon ,Co. Longford with just 1200 attendees shouldn't be derprived of a really cool App so that the festival goer could keep up with the schedule, and they weren't...as MobaNode was happy to oblidge...

We were glad to help out the team from Helium with this App, as the event itself was for charity and to raise money for FASI - the Friedreichs Ataxia Society of Ireland. So if you are lucky enough to be heading to the Helium Festival....go get the App on the Appstore now...

So you're you a small Festival, Event or Tourist Attraction and think Apps either aren't for you, or you can't afford one, give us a shout here at MobaNode (hello@mobanode.com) and we can have a chat (preferably over coffee and cake!)

HTC sum up Mobile meaning nicely...

Saw this Ad on "real telly" last night (well actually stopped fast forwarding on Sky+ to view). Great Ad from HTC and really sums up the essence of mobile and how ubiquitous and personal a piece of technology it is....

What's the Buzz?

Ok...Mobile is Big, we know that, but increasingly it's hard to keep up with all the products and services being thrown into the mobile Mix. The latest, Google Buzz is just out and it purports to be a lot of things. Will it catch on? How is it different from all the other services out there about status? Facebook updates, Twitter, Friendfeed and even Google's own Latitude product (sadly not available in Ireland) not to mention Foursquare, Loopt, Locle and many, many others...

After watching the introductory video, I really can't see what the standout feature is going to be and to be honest, can't see the point. If people want to know what I'm doing right now - go to my Twitter, if they want to know more than that, read this blog. I'm not sure if this permanent "connectedness" through all these multiple channels is actually going anywhere, other to enhance carriers revenue, increase the amount of Ads google can serve, and play to the "look at me" tendencies of those with the attention span of a gnat...

Rant over...

Elevated! MobaNode wins the €60k Elevate Award...

As per previous posts, the awards ceremony for the Impact Media Elevate Award took place in the Carlton Hotel Limerick last Thursday night - and we won!! Amazing, we were stunned and shocked when our name was called out considering the stiff competition from Travelace.com and Sports Academy International. This is a huge success and is thanks to all those involved in MobaNode (many of whom were there on the night) and will make a huge Impact (pardon the pun) to MobaNode going forward.

Thanks to Jan Blanchard from Tourist Republic for capturing on Film the highlights of the awards.

Many thanks to Impact Media, and all the sponsors of the Elevate Award for a great night, and for giving MobaNode a great Christmas Present!

Barcelona here we come...

Courtesy of a generous benefactor, MobaNode will be at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 11th to the 14th. Flights are booked and a ludicrously expensive apartment reserved (expensive for what it is - i.e. 1 Bedroom tiny bolt hole down a dodgy lane, not expensive per say! - I'm am still a start-up after all!!), so here I come!

Mobile World Congress

The scale of the show is enormous, larger than CES which I've been to in the past, so hopefully I'll manage to see all the stands I want to see and still have time to schedule meetings. There will be a large Irish presence there too, with more than 20 Irish companies exhibiting as part of the Enterprise Ireland sponsored stand at HALL 1, STAND 1F17 (see - www.3gsmireland.com). One of these companies will also be using a MobaNode Access Point to deliver relevant content to show attendees and I'm thrilled with that. If you are attending the MWC '08 and would like to meet-up, please don't hesitate to contact me at shane(at)mobanode(dot)com. Hasta luego!
