$750m validation of Mobile Advertising...
Monday, November 16, 2009 at 10:32AM For a long time now, and as the backbone of MobaNode's Company "pitch", we've pushed the potential of the Mobile Advertising space. Figures abound for the potential size of the market, everytime you search on google, or see an new "industry report" the figure is different, but nothing speaks louder of the "value" placed on mobile than the acquisition of Admob by Google for a staggering $750m! We'll done to Omar and Russell. On the blog post about this, Omar makes some keen observations and comments -
"...until now, it has always felt like those of us involved in this space played second fiddle to our online brethren. I believe that time is over.
...I remember we used to have a cynical saying that summarized both the promise that mobile possessed and the monumental barriers we could not cross: “Mobile is the future, and always will be.”
...let there be no mistake. Our business, and the mobile industry in general, owes Apple a debt of gratitude."
The last comment about Apple is particularly relevant. Even though the volume of iPhones on the market is dwarfed by the more traditional handsets from manufacturers such as Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung etc, the iPhone is the singularity that alone has caused brands and organizations to be interested in Mobile, Mobile developers to significantly up their game, and for apps stores and download sites to move away from Screensavers and wallpapers to something more meaningful, relevant and useful.
